With this study, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) aims to gain a better understanding of the potential use of blockchain in the postal sector, particularly within two domain areas: improving postal logistics and facilitating inclusive postal financial services.
As stated in its Constitution, the UPU’s objective is to secure the organization and improvement of the postal services and to promote the development of international collaboration in this sphere. In today’s rapidly changing world, in the light of recent developments such as the introduction of digital technologies in the postal sector, the UPU has decided to further explore the potential benefits of DLTs and blockchain to identify sustainable use cases for the facilitation of international mail processes and the provision of inclusive postal financial services for underbanked and unbanked populations.
