UN 2.0 Week - What Next? What Member States Expect From a UN 2.0

The defining principle of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a shared promise by every country to work together to secure the rights and well-being of everyone on a healthy, thriving planet. But halfway to 2030, this promise is in peril. The SDGs are disappearing in the rear-view mirror. A fundamental shift is needed – in commitments, solidarity, financing and action – to put the world on a better path. And it is needed now. As highlighted in the Secretary-General's Report on Our Common Agenda, we cannot solve 21st century problems with 20th century tools. We need accelerated and transformative action, nationally and internationally, to deliver on the promise of the SDGs. For UN organizations, a “quintet of change” — data, innovation, digital solutions, foresight, and behavioural science – will drive the transformation towards new UN 2.0 expertise and culture across UN organizations for stronger SDG impact on the ground. As the concluding moment of the UN 2.0 Week of events, this session intends to provide a platform for senior Member State participants to delve into how stronger capabilities in data, digital, innovation, foresight and behavioural science can accelerate national priorities and progress. Participants will also share thoughts on how UN organizations can leverage the UN 2.0 agenda to improve their offering in the service of people and planet.
